sampler-cultureclash live

The next sampler-cultureclash performance will take place this Saturday 14th July at the Manchester Craft and Design Centre. We've been invited to help mark the Centre's 30th Year celebrations, which we're doing by hosting a day and evening of sampling shenanigans. During the day from 2-4pm recent graduates and students from the Textiles in Practice course at Manchester Met. Uni will be running participatory activities, and showcasing several new interventions in and around the building, then in the evening we will give a live performance responding to the centre's transformation from a former fish and poultry market into it's current role as a leading centre for contemporary craft and design. Featuring the regular sampler crew Jason Singh, Yusra Warsama, Berit Greinke and me. The evening event runs from 18.30-20.30. It's free but you need to reserve tickets which you can do here: http://samplercultureclash-efbevent.eventbrite.com/ Hurry as they are going fast. Hope to see you there.

More goodness from sampler-cultureclash members

Well I thought I'd just do a quick post to let you know about the activities of two of the long standing members of the sampler-cultureclash collective, Yusra Warsama and Jason Singh. We are delighted to hear that performance poet, writer and actor Yusra has been chosen by Screen International as one of the rising stars of British Screen in 2012. Congratulations Yusra, all your dedication to, and hard work with your acting over the last couple of years is starting to pay off. You can see the full list and article here. http://m.screendaily.com/5043396.article As for sonic maestro Jason Singh. Jason is coming to the end of his successful six month sound artist in residence at the V&A. He has a whole list of gigs lined up over the next few months which you can find out more about on his blog. http://thesinghthing.com/ As for the other members of sampler, we are tinkering away quietly preparing for our next get together on Saturday 14 July for our event and performance at Manchester Craft and Design Centre, in partnership with Embroidery students from Manchester Metropolitan University, as part of the Centre's 30 year anniversary celebrations. A definite date for your diary. More details in my next post.

In Conversation with Boys Who Sew

Happy New Year! Wishing you all a peaceful, collaborative and creative 2012.

It's a while since I posted anything on the sampler blog, as I've been busy with my own residency in Berlin - In Search of Berlin Wool.

However, I'm delighted to say that all being well the sampler-cultureclash collective will be getting together for several events in 2012, including performances in Belfast in March and at the Manchester Craft and Design Centre on Saturday 14 July. In addition we're at the early stages of curating a mini textile and sound festival in Berlin in the summer. We'll keep you posted on them all.

In the meantime to kick the year off I'm delighted to be taking part in the In Conversation with Boys Who Sew event at Mac, Birmingham at 7.30pm on Tuesday 17 January. Curated by Trevor Pitt I'll be joining the now infamous Jamie Chalmers (aka Mr X Stitch), Stewart Easton whose exhibition Four Tragic Tales in currently on at MAC, and the Birmingham legend Twiggy for a fun evening of chat and debate about all matter of things embroidered.

Be great to see a few of you there.
